Marti Griffin

Marti Griffin

Marti Griffin, photographic artist, was born in 1950 in Southeast Alabama USA. Griffin grew up there then transplanted to Metro Atlanta in 1972. She presently resides in Sandy Springs, Georgia with her family of four cats, one dog, and a bit of wildlife.

Since childhood, down on the farm, Marti has been viewing life's scenes as if they had a gilded picture frame surrounding them. Frustrated with the inability to draw or paint, meeting the camera was "love at first sight". Marti had finally found the tool to capture those fleeting moments of life and frame them for the world to enjoy.

Griffin's work is fueled by a passion for her art and love of flora and fauna, she most assuredly "shoots from the heart". It is reflected in her work with Petraiture® and MartiArt. She began actively pursuing a career in photography in 1976 after receiving a 35mm SLR camera as a gift. Those first years shooting rock 'n roll concerts for fun led to commercial work focused primarily on advertising, editorial, and entertainment photography. She states she is self-taught through apprenticeship, clients, osmosis, and intuition.

Marti Griffin has been honored with many awards. Including The Art Directors Club 64th Annual Exhibition Merit Award, several bronze Addy Awards from the Atlanta Advertising Club, a Gold Addy Award from The Birmingham Art Directors Club, a Merit Award from The Advertising Photography Awards of The Advertising Photographers of America, just to mention a few.

Marti has a gallery at Art Space International, Studio 7-B, 1192 Huff Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30318. Some of her MartiArt work is on display there including; "Backstreet: The Atlanta Dance Club Retrospective", as well as, "Monumental..." a study of ways people memorialize loved ones. In addition, her floral portraiture series "Flora Intima" was shown at the Smyrna Public Library, Smyrna, Georgia during March and April 2009. Petraiture® installations are at VCA North Atlanta Animal Hospital in Sandy Springs and also at VCA Roswell Animal Hospital in Roswell, Georgia. Various other works can be found at Clemens & Company Gallery in downtown Hogansville, Georgia.

Upcoming is "A Time To Dance" which will open at Georgia Perimeter College Clarkston Campus Main Fine Arts Gallery September 23rd and be on exhibit until October 31st, 2009. This show is a fusion of Dance for Fun and Funerary Art with a rather unconventional approach.
